An Introduction of the General Hospital of TianJin Medical University (TMC)

History: The General Hospital of TMC was founded in 1946, which has 7department, 70 physicians, 200 beds and 3 X-ray facilities. After the PRC's foundation in 1949, the hospital's name was changed into Tianjin State General Hospital. In 1956, the name is changed to the Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin Medical College. It has the current name in August 1994.

Today: It is the biggest general hospital of medicine, education, research and preservation. The hospital total floor space of construction is 76,756 square meter. The hospital has established 33 clinical faculties, 12 medical technique faculties, TianJin Neurology Institute, TianJin Endocrine Disease Clinical Research Department and Tianjin Sex-transmitted Diseases Prevention & Control Institute. The hospital also has established 23 specialties with the authority to award master degrees and 7 with the authority to award doctoral degrees, one exchange-station for post-doctoral research. The university general hospital now has a total of 1000 beds. And the outpatient Department receives about 3500 patients per day. The number of POD operation is 14300 per year.

Education: The Hospital is the first clinical unit for TMU and has established the complete training system with five-year and three-year clinical teaching programs. The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council has vested the University with full authority to confer bachelor, master, doctor degrees and a Post-Ph.D. Movable Station. Every year, the hospital receives nearly 600 students from the TMC. From then on the hospital has trained 95 doctors and 612 masters.

International exchange & Corporation: Ever since its founding, especially in the recent 20 years, the university has received more than 1,000 scholars and specialists coming for academic exchanges and visits from over 20 countries and regions, such as America, Swiss, Singapore, Japan, etc. The university also actively selects and sends instructors, researchers and administrative officials abroad for study, academic conferences, investigations and visits.
