An Introduction of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

TUTCM is located in Tianjin, one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government Accessible by rail, air, sea and motorway, travel to and from Tianjin is very convenient. Beijing, the capital of China, is located just 130 km to the Northwest and is linked to Tianjin by a modern expressway.

FAVORABLE TEACHING ENVIRONMENT

TUTCM has a comfortable environment for living and learning. The campus consists of a total area of 101, 821 square meters and total building area is 81900 square meters. In 1996, "The Education Center of the International College of TCM" was completed with a total building area of 22,400 square meters. The center is equipped with modern facilities of teaching, accommodation, eating and entertainment.

GOOD TEACHING FACILITIES AND STRONG TEACHINA STAFF

TUTCM now has three departments (TCM, ACUPUNCTURE and Moxibustion, and Chinese Materia Medica), two sections (Teaching of Common Courses and Social Sciences ) ,two institutes(TCM and TCM Engineering ),two affiliated hospitals (NO 1 and NO 2) and two centers (Clinical Acupuncture Research and Difficult Disease Research).Students in the college may take part in Doctor's degree, Master's degree, undergraduate and short-term courses. Specialized field of study include; TCM, aupuncture and moxibustion, Orthopedics and Traumatology of TCM, TCM External Diseases, Health Preservation and Rehabilitation of TCM (all of the above with length of schooling of 5 years), and Chinese Materia Medica (4 years). Now there are ten authorized specialties of Master's degree. At present, more than 2,000 students are studying in the college.

TUTCM now has a staff of 3,000 (including staff in two hospitals ) , among which 2,300 are TCM professionals. Through nearly 40 years of development, TUTCM now has formed an experienced and rational teaching staff who are engaged in TCM education, clinical, and research work. Large number of TCM experts have become famous, such as prof. Dai Ximeng, specialist of blood diseases, and prof. Shi Xuemin, specialist of acupuncture.

TUTCM takes the quality of teaching as its main focus and put stresses on the perfection of subjects and scientific researches. "experimental Acupuncture", a course uniquely developed at the university, has been awarded the highest honor of " top prize"” by the State Education Commission in 1989.

WELL-EQUIPPED HOSPITALS FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE

The two affiliated hospitals are among the best hospitals in the country. They have modern diagnostic facilities and a total of 1,386 beds. 88 clinical departments of the two hospitals receive 6,000 out-patients a day. As the clinical teaching sections, the two affiliated hospitals have 16 clinical teaching and research offices. The two affiliated hospitals, as the important bases for clinical practice, provide good facilities for students of the college.
